Newly Renovated Courts at Six Bells Officially Opened

• 2 MINUTE READ

The newly refurbished tennis courts at Six Bells park in Blaenau Gwent were officially opened on 11 June.

Six Bells from high up

A fantastic event was attended by more than 150 adults and children from the community who enjoyed fun sessions delivered by Six Bells Park Community Tennis.

The opening ceremony saw a speech from Cllr Helen Cunningham, Deputy Leader of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Councill, before the ribbon was cut by local martial arts champion Jack Shore and competition winner Darcie Edwards.

The courts have been renovated to the tune of £37,516.70 as part of a nationwide investment by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation, delivered by the LTA, to refurbish public tennis courts and open up the sport to many more people.

This investment will bring thousands of existing park tennis courts in poor or unplayable condition across the UK back to life for the benefit of communities across the country, as well as making it easier to find, book and get on court.

Park tennis courts are vital for getting children and adults active, delivering significant physical and mental wellbeing benefits.

Tennis Wales CEO Simon Johnson said: “It was great to see so many at the opening of the refurbished courts at Six Bells. Facilities like this are so important to the community. Diolch to the superb local volunteers and coaching team at Six Bells who have brought this project to fruition. Also a big thank you to Blaeanau Gwent County Borough Council and the LTA for their investment, and Pam Griffiths – Parks Lead at Tennis Wales – for all her hard work.”
